Christopher O’Bryant Muhammad aka DJ Christophlex was born in Boston MA. Christophlex has a history of music in his family. His Grandfather was a saxophone player who played with The Temptations' band. He also had an Uncle that was a professor at Berkley College of Music in Boston, MA. Christophlex was influenced at a very young age to become involved in radio and DJing. Christophlex’s inspiration for radio came from a local Boston radio DJ, Sonny Jo White, of WILD 1090 AM (Later KISS 108 FM) and the television show WKRP in Cincinnati. Growing up in the beginning stages of Hip Hop, with DJ’s such as Grandmaster Flash, Red Alert, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Terminator X and others inspired Christophlex to want to become a DJ. “I was always a shy person. So the idea of communicating and moving people through music has always fascinated me” Christophlex was introduced to radio during his years at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School where he joined the High School radio station WRLS, and obtained his 3rd class FCC Broadcasting License. He later went on to do college radio at Bunker Hill Community College WBCC as well as Salem State College WMWM 91.7 FM. Inspired by the conscious Hip Hop era of the late eighties by the likes of Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, X-Clan, Bran Nubians, Poor Righteous Teaches, and others Christophlex was introduced to Islam. “Prior to becoming a Muslim, I remember reading an interview by Public Enemy. In the interview Public Enemy stated that they wanted to raise up 5,000 soldiers. I believe that I am one of those 5000 soldiers raised up by the influence of Public Enemy”. Although Christophlex had put his DJing aspirations on the back burner for his religion he never lost his love for music, DJing and Hip Hop. It wasn’t until Christophlex saw a High School classmate Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, that Christophlex started DJing again. “Seeing Matt in Good Will Hunting really inspired me. I knew that Matt had become an actor, but had no idea that he had made it that big. When I saw Good Will Hunting I said if Matt can do it, so can I”. It was that year that Christophlex began DJing again. In 2003 Christophlex moved to Springfield, MA. Springfield opened the door of opportunity for Christophlex to turn his hobby into a profession. In 2004 Christophlex began working with James Lewis of Organix Soul. James Lewis introduced Christophlex to DJ KLS of the Blitz Pac. Christophlex joined The Blitz Pac 2005. In 2008 Christophlex began working with the legendary Mix Tape King, Heavy Hitter DJ Craig G of Hot 93.7 FM in Hartford, CT and joined Craig G's Top Floor Entertainment. Christophlex's ultimate goal in DJing is to leverage his love of music, Hip Hop and DJing to touch the lives of others in the way that Public Enemy touched his life.
